CANON: Hello Charlotte
CANON HISTORY:
CANON PERSONALITY:
SKILLS/ABILITIES: n/a
Hello Charlotte is a game about a puppet you control: Charlotte! In the game you meet and interact with her alien friends, her maggot cat, and the observer. You are her puppet and you control her every move and interact with her while you make sure she’s completely safe from harm.
You explore the House, go to School, SOCIALIZE, make friends with gods, play with magcats and have fun.
Or… So it seems.
Early on in the game, you learn that Charlotte has no parents, she lives in a house with a cat and strange people. Her “Puppeteer” is no more than just a simple imaginary friend. In addition that Charlotte is just a lonely girl with schizophrenia and due to that she puts a certain twist on her perception of the world, with a few supernatural elements: that’s why the people in her house are “aliens” (who are also imaginary friends, they have supernatural elements to them, or she believes they're from other planets which is why she calls them aliens), her cat is a maggot cat, and she talks to you, the imaginary friend “Seth”, as her puppeteer.
In the first episode of Hello Charlotte, she babysits Huxley’s nephew Felix. Suddenly, realizing Felix is missing, Charlotte goes through a TV and finds herself in an expansive world of TVs. There, she goes through wacky worlds of meat monsters, flower ladies, and then a black and white Library trying to find Felix.
Throughout this adventure, you meet a race called the Pythia, who are beings able to manipulate time and space – however their race was exterminated. On the other hand, an Oracle has also taken physical form in the TV world. Long story short, it’s a being that’s basically similar to a God, which can create small universes. They learn that the Pythia actually hated the Oracle because the Oracle tried to take away the Pythias' individuality, thus the Pythia exterminated the Oracle because the race wanted to keep their individuality. By taking away the Pythias' individuality; think of like your mind becoming one with everyone around you, you hear everyone's thoughts, and they hear yours -- you will never have privacy or creativity ever again. The Pythia hated that, so the Pythia that didn't become one with the Oracle began to exterminate the Pythia that were on the Oracle's side.
They meet an Oracle, trapped in a TV who told them that this world was dying. In order for Charlotte to save herself and Felix (and in addition, the oracle), she essentially became “one” with the Oracle, and accepted them into her body becoming a vessel for the Oracle. Then, just like that, they walked out of the TV world, and it collapsed.
Now, being a vessel of the Oracle, nothing's changed much... Except for a drastic change in Charlotte's health. She becomes a bit more sickly. Though, the Oracle still doesn't have any powers, and all they do is reside in Charlotte's mind, constantly talking to her.
Episode two is simply Charlotte going to school, preparing for the Trial: where the one who SOCLAIZES the least, ultimately trash bags to society, are fixed in the “smile room”.
Mostly, you learn about Charlotte’s daily life, and uncover little hints on how she perceives her world. You uncover a lot of her personality and relationship with her classmates, friends, and a new boy named “C” who claims to be the “God” of this world.
Charlotte interacts with C only to find out that C isn't actually a God, he's just a self proclaimed one; he has no powers, or anything of that sort.
Charlotte interacts with her friend Anri only to find out Anri continously manipulates Charlotte; using Charlotte to buy lunch for her, making everything Charlotte does seem like her fault, and constantly gaslighting her.
You learn more about The House which is basically her world (explained below).
You learn that, in reality, her classmates hate her because they call her names, and purposely avoid her.
Then when it boils down to the trial, she comes to a decision to either vote for C, to save him, or vote for Anri so Charlotte can save herself from the smile room because Anri would vote for her... However, that means C will go to the Smile Room (explained below), and he'll die.
TERMINOLOGY
The House- simply is the "world" Charlotte lives in. Since she likes to play god by filtering out what she dislikes, and creating a world where she can live in peaceful naivety, The House is just her tiny extension of her world: her house, and the school she goes to.
Socialize- Talking to classmates and making friends. You get social points for doing this, which are used for the trial.
The Trial- Basically, during school, if you don't have enough Social Points you are deemed human garbage and society tries to fix you. How it works is the students are gathered in a room, and they use their cellphones to vote for their friends. If you have no votes (because you made no friends), then that's how you're picked for the trial.
Smile Room- The room where they fix the people who are chosen in the trial. No one comes back from that room alive because they simply take the data from the student's "soul cube", thus becoming just a corpse. (Meanwhile, a soul cube is basically someone's soul)
CANON PERSONALITY:
“Be a good girl.” “Good always wins in the end.” “If you’ll be kind, others will be kind to you.” “Violence is bad.”
All of those words are from her Mother’s mouth, and Charlotte listens to those words with her entire heart. She’s a very polite girl, who is incredibly loyal to her friends and never breaks her promises. At school she’s always called princess, the most beautiful person in school, the most perfect person, and so on. At least… With her skewed perception of the world, that’s what she thinks.
It's good to note beforehand that Charlotte is a lonely girl with schizophrenia that skews her perception of the world. She sees things completely differently from people, with even supernatural elements (seeings cats as maggots, people are faceless voids, ect) incorporated into her perception. We also need to note, some supernatural elements are also just naturally embedded into the world that actually do exist in this world, but with Charlotte being the "unreliable narrator", it's hard to tell (even the creator of the game says it's all up to interpretation!). She refers to this schizophrenia as the "fog" because it tends to make her mind well... "Foggy", so in the end that's why she sees the world differently. The thicker the fog is around her, the more skewed her perception becomes. She tends to dissociate from reality, and may seem very absentminded quite a lot. Also, the fog is also the reason why she sees herself with white hair and white eyes; Charlotte strives to be a pure white, devoid of all colours, which is also why she likes to "play god" and filters out everything she doesn't like in her perception of the world. When she takes her abilify pills, her perception of the world completely turns to normal.
Though... A problem is that she's so lonely because her mother and father left her that she has to make up these imaginary friends so she has some form of company. She refuses to take her medicine so she can live in a naive world where everything goes her way, everything is nice, and she actually has friends that treat her well. Even when one of her imaginary friends told her she should be taking her pills, she refuses because she doesn't know what she'd do if they would leave her.
Nonetheless... She’s a kind of person that never wants to trouble anyone, and like her mother taught her, she would rather die instead. Even when she was being bullied she refused to call for help because it would trouble people. While it might seem polite of her, Frei calls her out on this; she listens to those words of her mother so much to the point that they manipulated her and she cares too much about the opinions of others. Deep down, all Charlotte wants is to be loved by everyone. That’s a big reason why she’s so nice to everyone, because she wants other’s to be kind back to her… However, when things don’t go her way, she tries to find excuses (ie: it’s fine if she just gets hurt, or saying she didn’t know any better, Seth told her to do it, ect).
Charlotte is very dependent on other people in her life, because she can’t do anything on her own. It’s blatant from her dreams about her mother, despite her mother falling to the ground she didn’t do anything because she said ‘she couldn’t do anything without mom’s permission’. Also, she’s very dependent on Seth, as the puppeteer, to guide her through her life (despite him not technically being real). Charlotte says she’s okay with living this kind of way because she felt like it was always meant to be. When people make decisions for her it means she doesn’t have to take responsibility for them, so in the end, she never has to suffer any consequences that would cause her stress or people to hate her.
Speaking of stress, she never handled that well, and suffers from panic attacks. Charlotte carries self-destructive impulses, such as self-harm, big dreams and fantasies about self-sacrifice; people like her mother and father left her, she created all these imaginary friends, had “friends” that didn’t treat her well she still chooses them over the oracle that was inside her mind that was always by her side.
Yet, Charlotte realizes that the oracle is merely a manifestation of all her self-destructive impulses, and in the end she can’t love herself. Her perception of the world is so skewed so she can stay ignorant to such a world that’s truly cruel. However, the way she talks to C when he wants to double suicide with her brings out what she truly thinks about the world: she tells C, "even if you are scared of the world, even if it disgusts you, and and even if you hate it..." but after that spiel Frei laughs at her, saying she's only saying it for herself implying that's truly what she thinks of the world in actuality. Despite it all, she’s afraid of death because she doesn’t believe there’s a world like heaven and nothingness awaits her. In the end… All she wants is to not be alone.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Charlotte Sakata
AU AGE: 15 years old

Charlotte will have black hair and blue eyes. However, considering the fact she only perceives herself with white hair and white eyes… Those features aren’t exactly ones she’d regain! However, I thought I’d mention it anyway.
AU HISTORY:
AU PERSONALITY:
Originally, she lived with her parents quietly, but soon her father abandoned her first. He said he was leaving for money purposes, to find a new job so he can afford to support his wife, and Charlotte so he left... Only to never to return. Charlotte, always hopeful he would come back someday waited and waited... Yet he never came back. She never really noticed there were problems with her family's money situation due to how young she was. Then, soon, unable to take care of a child, her mother had to drop Charlotte off at the orphanage around 8 years old, thus she begins her new life as she waits, hopeful, for a guardian that will take her to a new home.
In the orphanage she spent her time mostly drawing pictures of cats, and practicing piano. She also became a little troublemaker, sometimes sneaking out whenever she can to visit the museum, cafes, parks and gardens whenever she can. Actually, while being a little troublemaker, she met Garry (permission from player granted) where they talked about art and fashion. Charlotte became rather close to Garry, trusting him with issues she has about her appearance.
Also, she tried to learn other skills, but came to realize for some reason she started becoming more absentminded and she began to space out on a lot of things... Soon, it was practically impossible for her to focus on anything or really excel at much. She became disorganized, and began to experience a compulsive behaviours.
The people taking care of her realized she began to have symptoms of schizophrenia, and the hemoptysis that are caused by stress and panic attacks began; upon realizing this she gets taken to the hospital. Thus, she becomes a hospital patient who comes in for regularly scheduled checkups about her health, and gets her regularly scheduled doses of medicine.
For her symptoms of her illness, Charlotte use to be brilliant at a lot of things: school, and hobbies (piano and art). A few symptoms would be disorderliness, and absentmindedness; she began to lose a lot of focus on things she does, getting distracted too easily, and when she tried to do academic work with her caretakers she either couldn't understand like she use to, or just never finished it. She began to fall very behind in things that related to school.
Of course, since she use to be so passionate about her hobbies and academic work they found this behaviour extremely off. At first, her caretakers paid it no mind. . . Until she started becoming a bit more isolated from her caretakers (never wanting to really interact with them, why she constantly escaped from the orphanage to wander, ect), and started becoming very forgetful (mood and behavioural symptoms) about things she was told, chores, names, ect. Due to drastic changes in her behaviour, they took her to the hospital to get diagnosed. That's how her caretakers found out about her illness.
And that’s how she lived her life… Alone in the orphanage, going to the hospital every week or two, making sure she stays on top of her medicine checkups and dosages. Despite everything, she still tries to stay extremely positive, hoping to find the perfect guardian that’ll take her in one day.
When Charlotte was 13 years old, she met Gintoki Sakata while she was at the hospital for a checkup. Apparently, he also was a patient that visited a lot because he was always getting hurt or sick... So after seeing him a few times, she decided to give him company one day. They got along pretty well, even though he was a weird guy, but Charlotte came to love him because she knew she was also pretty weird too.
With that, Gintoki decided to adopt her and they both moved into the family apartments of Crimson Crest in Apprassage. Now, at the age of 15 years old, Charlotte regularly attends high school, while Gintoki does his odd jobs (however, she likes to help out when she can!!!).
Meanwhile, she still takes her visits to the hospital to keep everything in check, that’s a thing that’ll probably never change.
AU PERSONALITY:
• While her schizophrenia and hemoptysis (illnesses that she has in canon) are still apparent, they’re not as severe. Also, in her canon she refused to take her abilify pills, but in recolle she’ll be taking them more responsibly... At least, 99% of the time.
• So with the addition of actually taking her medicine, her perception on the world won’t be as supernaturally skewed (won’t see cats as maggots, as an example).
• She isn’t as hateful or scared of the world as she is in canon, therefore she’ll have no self-destructive impulses.
• No imaginary friends either! Which means all her memories about Huxley, Felix, Bennett, Aiden, ect will not be there.
• She also will not think she’s a puppet, with her puppeteer, Seth.
• Which also means, she won’t be as dependent to the point it’s destructive.
• She won’t have the oracle by her side either, so she will have no memory of them.
• So, overall… She’s just less destructive and depressed, and actually takes her medicine to keep her illnesses in check.
